Valencia Life 3l.5.5
SECOND DAY
Today is the second day of the visit of the special fact-finding mission of the European Parliament as today the will fly to Alicante where they will meet the national and Valencian Ombudsmen as well as representatives from the building sector, and the President of the Diputacion of Alicante Jose Joaquin Ripoll. After lunching with a select group of people including Charles Svoboda, the President of the AUN Collective that first alerted the EU to the abuses committed in the Valencian Community under the land laws known as LRAU, the delegation will then visit Tibi and study its proposed urbanization project before driving to Calpe for a short visit and then to Benissa, where they will stay the night. It has also been revealed that many of the media in the Valencian Community have been discouraged from giving the visit of the EU delegation any coverage at all, despite the fact that some 30,000 complaints have been registered with the EU over the application of the LRAU.

From Valencia Life 30.5.5.
HERE TODAY
The special fact-finding mission of the European Parliament will begin their visit to Spain and the Valencian Community today, with a meeting with several Ambassadors and Ministers in Madrid. Amongst the questions expected to be asked is whether there has been any reply to a formal 'letter of infringement' sent by the EU to the Spanish Government last March and whose answer was due by last Wednesday. The delegation tomorrow will visit Alicante Province, and hold a series of meetings in Alicante City and Benissa, before journeying to Valencia for meetings with the various members of the Valencian Government. The main concern of the mission is to fully examine the abuses carried out in enforcement of the Valencian Land laws, better known as LRAU, and how the rights of many property owners have been severely infringed.

BRITISH GOING AWAY
(from Valencia Life)
A recent study carried out by the Homes Overseas Awards has revealed that the number of British people settling or living in Alicante Province is dropping. The study showed that between 2003 and 2004, the number of full-time residents of Javea fell by 167 to 6,154. In line with this is the 6% drop in investments in the Province by British people. The study also found that the new areas where the British are settling are Tunisia and Malta, whilst the exodus is mainly blamed on rising prices and the increase in robberies. Graham Harrison, who has lived in Teulada for over thirty years told the local press that the dangers of loss of property in his municipality is considerably lessened by Mayor Jose Ciscar using the controversial Valencian Land Laws - LRAU- 'wisely'. The Homes Overseas study showed that British residents are most numerous in the municipalities of Teulada, Calpe, Javea and Denia, whilst many analysts have pointed to the aggressive campaign by the AUN collective against the LRAU has also caused less English people to settle in the Valencian Community.

BENISSA PROJECT UNDER STUDY
It was revealed yesterday that a project has been presented to BenissaTown Hall envisaging the construction of two golf courses and 4,700 homes on an area of 3.6 million square metres. The project, which was presented by the company Benissa Golf S/L, is estimated to cost some 600million Euros and will encompass the areas of the municipality known as Lleus, Vinyent, Bombi and La Rapita. A project of this nature had been rumored for some time after Benissa Golf asked electricity company Iberdrola to envisage installing some 60,000 kilowatts for the area. The proposed area for the new project is bordered by the N-332 main road and the AP-7 motorway, with the Denia-Alicante rail tracks running through it. Benissa Mayor Juan Bautista Rosello stated yesterday that he had been 'surprised' by the presentation of the project, and that any decision over it would be made once everyone had made their points about it, from Benisseros to local politicians. "But in any case," the Mayor added, " I have no idea whether our municipality has enough water resources for a project as large as this."

Also yesterday a group of four companies in Denia presented the Town Hall with a project for some 8,000 new moorings and two helipads. Although the project was presented yesterday, many Town Councilors stated that they had not been shown the plans

Valencia Life 6.5.5.
THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?
In a brief reply yesterday the Justice Ministry has revealed that any building project that involves over 5 million Euros' worth of works that has not gone through the proper procedures under European Union Law is in effect illegal. The reply also appears to leave open the possibility for direct legal challenges to such immense future projects as the Rabasa development in Alicante that involves the creation of some 15,000 homes, or on a smaller scale the Ronda Norte project of Benissa. A brief statement from the AUN collective added that Mayors and Town Councilors who voted for these projects that are now termed 'illegal' could themselves face prosecution. The statement added that this decision from the Ministry could have a very serious 'knock-on' effect on theValencian land laws better known as LRAU.

Valencia Life. 2.5.05
GETTING IN BEFORE THE TIME LIMIT
The Valencian Community has decided that some 81 million square metres of land may now be urbanized, it was revealed yesterday. Equally, the builders applying for permits have revealed that their plans are to build 140,000 new homes on these lands as well as to construct some 26 golf courses. Almost all of these plans are in the various Town Halls concerned as well as inside the Conselleria for the Territory, which must now decide about the plans before a new law (LOTPP) goes into effect on July 1 which will in effect mean that no additional land can be urbanized or have its designation altered. Alicante is the Province where most of the building plans are focused, with plans for almost 2,000 homes and a golf course to be set up on 1.5 million square metres. The other major plans for Alicante Province are: Ondara (a golf course and 1,954 homes), Pego (1,300 homes and a golfcourse on 1.8 million square metres), Aspe (5,400 homes on 3.5 million square metres), Elda (7,500 homes and a golf course), Novelda (2,500homes and a golf course) and Villena (1,200 homes and a golf course). In Castellon, plans are on the books for the World of Illusion Theme Park on 19 million square metres between Cabanes and Oropesa del Mar and Peñiscola where about 7,800 homes are planned as well as a golf course. In Valencia Province four towns - Betera, La Pobla de Vallbona, Naquera and Riba-Roja - are planning to build a total of 22,000 homes and three golf courses on some 22 million square metres. Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that some 85,000 buildings inAlicante Province that are more than fifty years old must now undergo special tests and controls to ensure that they are still habitable.
