Valencia Life. 2.5.05
GETTING IN BEFORE THE TIME LIMIT
The Valencian Community has decided that some 81 million square metres of land may now be urbanized, it was revealed yesterday. Equally, the builders applying for permits have revealed that their plans are to build 140,000 new homes on these lands as well as to construct some 26 golf courses. Almost all of these plans are in the various Town Halls concerned as well as inside the Conselleria for the Territory, which must now decide about the plans before a new law (LOTPP) goes into effect on July 1 which will in effect mean that no additional land can be urbanized or have its designation altered. Alicante is the Province where most of the building plans are focused, with plans for almost 2,000 homes and a golf course to be set up on 1.5 million square metres. The other major plans for Alicante Province are: Ondara (a golf course and 1,954 homes), Pego (1,300 homes and a golfcourse on 1.8 million square metres), Aspe (5,400 homes on 3.5 million square metres), Elda (7,500 homes and a golf course), Novelda (2,500homes and a golf course) and Villena (1,200 homes and a golf course). In Castellon, plans are on the books for the World of Illusion Theme Park on 19 million square metres between Cabanes and Oropesa del Mar and PeƱiscola where about 7,800 homes are planned as well as a golf course. In Valencia Province four towns - Betera, La Pobla de Vallbona, Naquera and Riba-Roja - are planning to build a total of 22,000 homes and three golf courses on some 22 million square metres. Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that some 85,000 buildings inAlicante Province that are more than fifty years old must now undergo special tests and controls to ensure that they are still habitable.
