BRITISH GOING AWAY
(from Valencia Life)
A recent study carried out by the Homes Overseas Awards has revealed that the number of British people settling or living in Alicante Province is dropping. The study showed that between 2003 and 2004, the number of full-time residents of Javea fell by 167 to 6,154. In line with this is the 6% drop in investments in the Province by British people. The study also found that the new areas where the British are settling are Tunisia and Malta, whilst the exodus is mainly blamed on rising prices and the increase in robberies. Graham Harrison, who has lived in Teulada for over thirty years told the local press that the dangers of loss of property in his municipality is considerably lessened by Mayor Jose Ciscar using the controversial Valencian Land Laws - LRAU- 'wisely'. The Homes Overseas study showed that British residents are most numerous in the municipalities of Teulada, Calpe, Javea and Denia, whilst many analysts have pointed to the aggressive campaign by the AUN collective against the LRAU has also caused less English people to settle in the Valencian Community.
