From Valencia Life
NO WE WON'T
Carmen Caffarel, the Socialist-appointed director of state broadcaster RTVE issued a brief statement yesterday in which she defended the recent transmission of a piece in the current affairs programme Informe Semanal that was highly critical of the Valencian land Laws. Called 'Limitless Building' the piece drew attention to the plight of several people in the coastal area of Benissa. Miss Caffarel rejected the complaint from the Valencian Government that the report was one-sided, and refused to issue any amendments to it despite the Valencian Government complaining that the piece damaged the overall image of the Valencian Community, and equally refused to broadcast a 'counter documentary' sent to her by the Valencian Government "as basically it was a promotional film." The statement added that RTVE was prepared to pull out of its production centre in Valencia 'if things got any worse'. Esteban Gonzalez Pons, the Valencian Government Spokesman stated that Miss Caffarel should fix 'the date and time' if she wants to pull out of the facilities afforded RTVE by the Valencian Government, ' as we need the space for our own television station'.
