From Valencia Life

SANET SAYS NO
The inhabitants of Sanet I Negrals are not content to lie down and let events overtake them, as they staged a virulent demonstration yesterday against a project that would rip up the orange groves and create a golf course, a five star hotel, and an urbanization with almost 2,000 dwellings. The promoters of the golf project stated that the orange groves ‘are in a pathetic state’, whilst the new urbanization would ‘create 1,300 jobs’, and the offer was on the table to buy the land at six times its current value from the owners. However, the locals yesterday firmly stated that they did not need any offers, as they were quite happy as they were. “We do not need anything more.”, whilst a German couple who live in a house close to the orange groves wrote on the wall of their home: “This natural beauty should remain as it is: we do not want a golf course. The law should serve man.”

Meanwhile, in CALPE yesterday, it was revealed that the local ecological collective ACEC is presenting a case to the Valencian Supreme Court over the Urbanising of the Las Salinas area of the town. A statement from the collective revealed that the Conseller for the Territory Rafael Blasco had established a 500-metre gap between the Salinas and any urbanising, with the Conseller himself stating two years ago that the Partido Popular was protecting the area. According to ACEC, a stage of the Urbanization is being undertaken on the very shores of the lake, whilst roads and other parts of the infrastructure are also infringing on the lake. ACEC President Carol Saunders implied yesterday that many of the flamingos that are currently in the Las Salinas area sometimes bury their heads under water in order not to see what is being done to their habitat.
